Our Story

Being outdoors has always been a wellspring of joy for our family. From hiking and swimming - to fishing or hunting - being in nature resets and recharges us. After a recent scare with skin cancer, we realized just how important it is to always protect our skin when we are adventuring. Growing up in the 80s, sunscreen and skin protection wasn't exactly front-of-mind for our parents (which is likely why we found ourselves at the dermatologists office in our 30s – getting scraped and tested.) Seeing the cuts and scars from these tests was an in-our-face reminder of the power and danger our big, beautiful star presents.  

We were shocked to learn that the amount of sun exposure a person has in the first 20 years of their life determines the likelihood of developing skin cancer, research shows. Just one sunburn can double a child's risk of developing melanoma later in life! This sobering information led us on our own adventure – to create a sun-protective shirt for kids that was breathable, comfortable, and kid approved.  

 

Sure we could slather and lather them up with sunscreen endlessly, but with 2 very active and energetic kids, corralling them multiple times per day to reapply became a giant barrier to our outdoor loving family.  

Kid's sun shirts became our go-to solution for sun protection during our outdoor quests. It had to be easy to wear and above all, kid-approved.
